The primary objective of Preschool and Kindergarten Faith Formation is to assist parents in introducing their children to a community of faith and fostering their children’s readiness for faith. St. Mary’s offers several ways for you to engage your child and help them begin their relationship with Jesus.
Wednesday Faith Formation
Preschool (ages 3-5) and kindergarten sessions are from 4:15-5:15 PM. Both groups use a Lectionary based curriculum and will send home pages to be used with parents during any weeks we are not in session. We follow the same calendar schedule as grades 1-8. When kindergarten – grade 8 are participating in Mass at the church, the preschool children will conduct their simultaneous session in the nursery or St. Joseph Room at the church.
IFFD: Intergenerational Family Faith Day
In the IFFD program, children spend most of their time learning from their parents. Parents are provided materials to help their child link the Sunday Gospel reading with their life and learn to KNOW, FOLLOW and SHARE the love of Jesus. Then, once each month the children come together with a catechist in peer groups to engage and practice their learning with one another. Parents engage with their peers at the same time. Children ages 3-5 are part of the “Seeds” curriculum from Pflaum publishing and kindergarteners are paired with first graders in the “Promise” level. After Mass, families gather from 10:15-11:45 AM at the Parish Life Center for fellowship, share time and a short service project. The gatherings usually take place on the last Sunday of the month with the exception of holidays.
Preschool and kindergarten age children can also benefit from the nursery program which welcomes children ages 1-5.
All are welcome to bring your 1-5 year olds to the Nursery room at the church during the 9 AM & 11 AM Masses where youth and adults will work, play and engage your child with the love of our Lord, Jesus. This program takes place on the first – fourth Sundays of the month, September – May, excluding Easter Sunday. During the summer months Welcoming the Little Ones will take place on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.
Adult volunteers are need as leaders and teens are needed as assistants. All volunteers are required to complete “The Essential Three.” See volunteer requirements on our web page for details.
When not in use for “Welcoming the Little Ones” our nursery is still open for families. Take a walk through our Sacristy and you will find a warm, kid-friendly environment designed just for you and your children. Toys, crayons and play stations will help your child release their “kid-wiggles” while the TV monitor is cued in to the liturgy so parents can continue their own worship. A parent or guardian must accompany the children.
