Catechists: Play a crucial role in shaping the future of young Catholics as teachers for students grades Pre-K-7. Share your faith story with parish youth and help them discover their own faith story and how it applies to their lives. Catechists serve October through April.
Catechist Assistant: Provide classroom support that helps catechists guide and develop the faith of our young parishioners.
Hallway Helper: Create a secure and safe environment for our children, catechists and catechist assistants.
Special Needs Assistant: Give children, requiring additional classroom support, a helping hand in building their faith.
Service Site Drivers/Chaperones: Make sure our students arrive safely at their community service commitments. Driver/background check required.
Liturgy of the Word with Children: Share the weekly scripture and your faith perspectives with grades 1-5 at the 9:00 and 11:00 AM Mass. Adult leaders and middle/high school youth helpers are needed on a rotating six-week schedule.
Welcoming the Little Ones: Lead the lesson plans of the provided curriculum to immerse children in the Lord’s love while parents worship. Available for children ages 1-5 during the 9:00 and 11:00 AM Masses.
Nursery: Parents watch the Mass on live TV while their children play. When “Welcoming the Little Ones” is held, parents can leave children with trained staff. Nursery cleaners are needed.
Faith Formation Committee: Support the Faith Formation staff by creating meaningful and enjoyable programs that support the faith formation of children, youth and adults. Help ensure a sense of belonging, drawing awareness to the life-long journey in faith, while fostering an environment of Christian values. Meets monthly.
Youth Ministry Core Team (Grades 6-12 & Confirmation)
Teens do not connect to programs; they connect to people. The most effective way to influence teens is through relationships, and St. Mary’s is looking for adult parishioners who will walk the journey to Christ with our middle and high school youth for the 2026-2027 school year. Prayerfully discern if the Holy Spirit is calling you to help in any of these areas:
Core Team Roles
- Confirmation Small Group Leader: Co-lead lead small groups including discussions and teaching content (leader guides provided) for 8th grade Confirmation candidates on Sunday evenings. (Also open to Confirmed high school student as part of a new High School Leadership Team – more details coming soon!)
- High School Small Group Leader: Adults mentors who journey together with a group of ~6-8 teens in becoming intentional disciples of Christ through twice monthly small group meetings (groups typically meet consistent on Sundays or Tuesdays).
- Edge Middle School Youth Group Leader: Commit to twice monthly middle school youth group events on Tuesday evenings. Help lead games, talks, testimonies, small groups, and prayer times.
- Event Chaperones (21+): Be present for the safety of the young people during youth events on or off site. Commit to chaperoning high school service and social events (~2x/month) and/or one-off events when they arise.
- Hospitality Team: Assist with setting up snacks, check in, and welcoming youth for large group events (Confirmation, Youth Group, HS Socials) either consistently or on a rotating schedule. Volunteers are also needed to help plan, prepare, and provide dinner for high school youth and Confirmation candidates once a month on Sunday evenings.
- Prayer Team: Regularly intercede for our young people, youth ministry, and Core Team by dedicating a Mass, Holy Hour, or another prayer time devotion every week. (This role does not work directly with youth).
Training and ongoing formation are provided. All volunteers who work with minors must be Safe Environment Certified (training provided). If you are interested or would like to know more, contact Michelle Boris at [email protected] or (612) 405-8703 (ok to text).
