Baptism

Baptism is the first step in our initiation into the Christian Community. Bringing your child into the Church through the Sacrament of Baptism includes the following essentials:

1. Parish Registration
   1. 1. If you are already a registered member of St. Mary of the lake, wonderful!  Continue to step 2.
      2. If you are not yet registered, please register here: Join Our Parish – St. Mary of the Lake, or, provide a permission letter from the pastor of your current registered parish for the Baptism to take place at St. Mary of the Lake.
2. Complete the Baptism Preparation process
   1. 1. Please fill out the Request for Sacrament of Baptism form at the bottom of this page.
      2. If this is your first Baptism at St. Mary of the Lake, or if it has been more than 5 years since you had a child Baptized at St. Mary of the Lake, please watch the series Reborn on Formed.org. 
      3. Please call the Parish Life Center at 651-429-7771, option 1 or email Shantel Schallenkamp if you have any questions about the registration process.
3. Provide a copy of the birth certificate
   1. 1. Attach a PDF copy of the birth certificate to the Request for Sacrament of Baptism form.
         
4. Choosing a Godparent/Sponsor
   You will include this information on the Request for Sacrament of Baptism form.
   

• • You must choose 1 sponsor. You may choose up to two.
  • If there are two sponsors, one female and one male.
  • Sponsors need to meet these three requirements:

1. 1. 1. A fully initiated Catholic (Baptized, Confirmed and Eucharist)
      2. At least 16 years old
      3. A good model of faith for your child and in good standing in the Catholic Church

5. Schedule a Baptism
   Once the above steps are completed, you can schedule a Baptism date. Baptisms are usually on the second and fourth Sundays of the month following the 11 AM Mass.
